Die filmische Reise führt entlang der Grenze zwischen den USA und seinem südlichen Nachbarn, Mexiko. Auf US-amerikanischer Seite der Grenzlinie folgend, begegnet diese Bestandsaufnahme hier lebenden und arbeitenden Menschen, die von Abschiebung bedroht sind oder für humanitäre Organisationen Flüchtlingshilfe anbieten und den Bau weiterer Grenzbefestigungen ablehnen. Gleichzeitig sind Bürgerwehren unterwegs, die sich dem Kampf gegen den Drogenhandel verschrieben haben und sich nach einer völlig undurchlässigen Grenze sehnen. Aber auch Unternehmer und Rancher sind im täglichem Alltag mit den Vorgängen an der Grenze konfrontiert. In diesem Spannungsfeld führt der Streifzug von wenig geschützten bis hin zu Hochsicherheitszonen, von unwirtlichen Wüstenstreifen bis in (sub-)urbane Zentren - eine eindrucksvolle, spannende Reise durch den Süden der USA.
This cinematic journey takes us along the border between the USA and its southern neighbor, Mexico. Following the border line on the US side, the documentary captures the lives of the people living and working here; of those who are threatened with deportation, or of those who offer refugee assistance to humanitarian organizations and oppose the construction of further border fortifications. At the same time, vigilantes are out and about, bound and determined to fighting drug trafficking and yearning for a completely impenetrable border. Likewise, entrepreneurs and ranchers are also confronted with the activities at the border in their daily lives. The foray leads from little-protected to high-security zones, from inhospitable desert strips to (sub-)urban centres and depicts an impressive, suspenseful journey through the south of the USA.
